Here's how to take a screenshot on your Mac, the step-by-step easy guide.  With these simple rules, you can capture the entire screen, a single window area, or just a portion of the screen you would like to edit or share later.

Take a screenshot!  Press Shift + Command + 3

To take a simple screenshot of your current screen view, just press and hold these three keys together. Once you press these three buttons you should see a small thumbnail image appear in the corner of your computer screen.  When the thumbnail appears you will have the option to EDIT the screenshot or wait for the screenshot to SAVE to your computer.  Remember to press Shift + Command + 3 for the perfect Mac screenshot.

Capture a portion of your screen!  Press Shift + Command + 4

In order to capture a portion of your screen, simply place and drag the crosshairs controlled by your mouse to the selected area of the screen you wish to capture, or you can move the crosshair selection by, pressing and holding the Mac space bar while dragging it to your specified scree point.  Once placed on the portion of your choice, release your mouse or trackpad to capture the screenshot.

In order to cancel this function, you would need to press the Esc (Escape) key.  Remember to press Shift + Command + 4 for the perfect Mac screen portion capture.

Capture the Mac screen window or menu!  Press Shift + Command + 4 + Spacebar

When looking to capture a window or menu on your Macbook, first open the menu or screen you would like to capture, then press and hold each of the following keys, Shift, Command, 4, and Space bar altogether. If you have pressed all the keys together and in the right order, you will see your computer pointer change to a camera icon. Then simply click the window or menu to capture the image.  In order to cancel this function, you would need to press the Esc (Escape) key.  Remember to press Shift + Command + 4 and Space bar for the perfect Mac screen window or menu capture.

Now once you have taken and captured your awesome window, menu or screenshots here is how you find those screenshots.  Your Mac by default will save your screenshots to your desktop and name them, screenshot with a date and time.  The file will save as a PNG by default and may need to be converted to some other format such as a JPG, TNF, GIF, or MP4 if you require a format other than a PNG.  In newer versions of the macOS, you can change your default saved location within your options menu.
