On April 22, 1990, 20 million people took to the streets for the first Earth Day, which is still one of the most successful environmental events in the history of the USA and the second-largest in the world.
By mobilizing more than 200 million people from 141 countries and lifting environmental status on the world stage, Earth Day 1990 activities gave a huge boost to recycling efforts worldwide and helped create a global network of recycling and recycling organizations - centered organizations such as the International Recycling Alliance (IRA) and the European Union (EU), as well as a number of other organizations in the United States and around the world.
