Congress is forcing the Pentagon to keep another program that it no longer wants. This time, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Howard "Buck" McKeon (R-CA) is making the Pentagon spent $114 million on upgrades to the Global Hawk spy drone even though DOD said that its $35,000 per flying hour cost was too high.
Northrup Grumman makes the drones in an area of California that McKeon represents; it’s no wonder the Congressman is trying to keep the program alive. The Global Hawk is just one of many programs that Congress is refusing to kill—even though the DOD is willing to bury them.
