A Fountain Valley high school will be getting additional equipment to help protect students and staff in case of a shooting like those that have shocked several schools around the country.
Valley Vista High will receive a protection system that includes material to make doors and windows bullet-resistant. It also features bullet-resistant door locks that can be locked remotely.

The estimated $50,000 cost of the project is being paid for by mobile-phone carrier ROK Mobile and Paramount-based security company Safer Schools for America, said Alison Kennedy, a spokeswoman for ROK Mobile.
“The safety of our students is always a top priority, and we are very excited and appreciative of the donation of radio frequency identification remote door lock systems from Safer Schools for America,” Huntington Beach Union High School District Assistant Supt. Carrie Delgado wrote in an email.

“We embrace the opportunity to provide violence prevention and school safety resources to our community’s schools and families,” John Paul DeJoria, co-founder of ROK Mobile, said in a statement. “It is vital we work together as a community to keep our children safe.”
DeJoria also is known for Paul Mitchell hair care services and products and as owner of the Patron tequila company.
Valley Vista will be the first school in Orange County to receive the donation. The school was chosen based on its PTA‘s relationship with Safer Schools for America, Kennedy said.
ROK Mobile and Safer Schools intend to donate protection systems to 20 schools in California in the next year, Kennedy said.
